Paris 2024 Sport Climbing Recap

The Paris 2024 Sport Climbing event brought together an electrifying atmosphere at The Font, where we screened every round of the semifinals and finals. Our centers were packed with fans, young and old, inspired by the world’s top climbers as they battled it out for Olympic glory.

In the men’s Boulder & Lead final, Toby Roberts, a regular at The Font Wandsworth, delivered a stunning performance to claim gold with a combined score of 155.2. His victory is a monumental achievement for UK climbing, particularly as he has previously competed in our flagship event, Brawl on the Wall, where he won in 2022 and finished second in 2023. Japan’s Sorato Anraku took silver with 145.4 points, while Austria’s Jakob Schubert secured bronze with 139.6. Fellow Brit Hamish McArthur also made a strong showing, finishing 5th with a score of 125.9.

On the women’s side, Janja Garnbret of Slovenia continued her dominance, winning her second Olympic gold with a score of 168.5. She was followed by climbing super stars USA’s Brooke Raboutou with 156.0 points and Austria’s Jessica Pilz with 147.4 points. Team GB’s Erin McNeice finished in a commendable 5th place with 127.6 points, showcasing the strength of British climbing. Erin’s success is particularly exciting for us at The Font, as she has competed in Brawl on the Wall in both 2022 and 2023, taking first place both years—a sign of her growing power even before she became a household name. Molly Thompson-Smith, although not making the finals, also put in an outstanding effort, underscoring her status as one of the UK's top climbers.

These results mark a significant moment for UK climbing, especially with Toby Roberts and Erin McNeice leading the way. The performances of our climbers at Paris 2024 have energised the climbing community, and the future looks incredibly bright for British climbing!

We look forward to the future of climbing and cant wait to see where they take it! We also hope to see them both at the Brawl on the Wall 2024! But thats one for another article!
